1.             APECS website: http://arcticportal.org/apecs

Please use the APECS website to learn about career opportunities,  participate in the discussion forum, and follow the latest polar news.

We are working closely with the Arctic Portal to improve our website so we can start developing stronger collaborations and facilitate

learning from each other. We have a new jobs section that Peter DiFiorie, our Chief Information Officer, created using Mailbucket.

Using Mailbucket allows for jobs to be posted automatically to our APECS Jobs RSS Feed and displayed on an interactive map using Yahoo

Pipes. We are currently working on updating our news section using a similar set up. The next step is to create a new literature section

that will display all new polar related scientific journal articles in one place. We will keep you posted on these new and exciting

developments. In the meantime, to submit a job or send an announcement  to the group, send an email to APECSinfo@gmail.com.

We are working hard to finish the membership directory and have made a few changes. We have updated the members area through the discussion

forum and need you to enter your information to build the database that will allow us to search for new collaborators, help with research

questions, and make new contacts and friends. To update your information, go to http://arcticportal.org/apecs/forum and log in.

Click on the User Control Panel link on the top right. This takes you to your discussion forum preference settings. On the right, you will

see a number of options. To update your contact information, research activities, and several other new features, click on the Profile link

under the Options header on the right. Here you can edit your profile and remember to save it by hitting the submit button on the bottom of

the page. This is relatively easy and should take less than 5 minutes  and will benefit all of us a great deal. We need your help to make some changes and continue the upkeep of the  website! We are looking for a few people with web skills to help.   There is a lot of new information that needs to be posted and several

significant formatting and organizational changes are planned for the  near future. Experience is not necessary, but knowledge of webpage

maintenance, Yahoo Pipes, or any other experience with website  development is a plus. The Arctic Portal uses the content management

system WebGui, which is relatively easy to learn.  Helping to update the site would require as much time as you are willing to contribute,

ideally only a few hours a week. Please contact Peter DiFiroie (pdifiore@Princeton.EDU ) to learn more. Help us build the main platform for our organization!

Thanks for your patience!

2.             SCAR/IASC St Petersburg Conference July 8 to 11, 2008

The closing date for submission of abstracts to the main SCAR/IASC conference has been extended to 15th February and workshop applicants

are strongly encouraged to attend. The early bird registration  deadline is April 1st and funding for the main conference is available

from IASC for early career researchers presenting Arctic research. The Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) and the UK
