SCAR's Expert Group on the International Bathymetric Chart of the Southern Ocean (IBCSO)

Dear Colleagues,

In an effort to improve the gathering and storage of bathymetric data from the Southern Ocean, so as to make them available for the improved bathymetric chart being developed by SCAR's Expert Group on the International Bathymetric Chart of the Southern Ocean (IBCSO), SCAR and its sister organisation SCOR (the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research) have recently promulgated an advice note that is now on the SCAR web site as Circular 768. Please download the Circular from the following web page, and do what you can to assist us in taking this initiative forward (http://www.scar.org/members/circulars/). It is worth recalling that bathymetric data are important for underpinning geological, biological and physical oceanographic studies, as we make plain in the recent SCAR news item "SCAR is mapping Southern Ocean seabed" on the SCAR news page at

http://www.scar.org/news/scarbusiness/.

End of message.

Kind regards,

Rosemary Nash
