CUSP - "China-US Science at the Poles" - is an informal working group with a mission to promote and facilitate bi- and multi-lateral programs that encourage cooperation between China and the US in the polar regions.  Scientific investigations in the polar regions have ramifications far beyond the geographic area of the poles. A fundamental element of polar science and research is to understand the role of and linkages between polar processes and the earth system.

CUSP grew out of a Roundtable discussion held at the 3rd George Bush China/US Conference on China and US Relations held in Washington D.C., October 23-25, 2007. The Roundtable was entitled "China US Polar Region Partnerships: The International Polar Year 2007-2008 and Beyond".
